Request to LCPS School Board for Tuscarora High School Community Meeting

Recent incidents at Tuscarora High School (THS) have raised concerns about:

  • safety
  • communication
  • the handling of serious incidents

We have had three serious incidents at THS this school year. One involved a social media post which included racially charged language and a threat to kill people in our school. Another involved the arrest of a man who was able to enter and remain at THS for a few hours with a loaded firearm. The third incident was an alleged sexual assault in a locker-room.

THS parents and students have many questions about how information about these incidents was communicated to them. They also have many questions about how these incidents were handled and want to know what precautions have been taken to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

Earlier this year, when serious incidents happened at two Loudoun County elementary schools, the LCPS School Board asked our Superintendent to organize town hall style Community Meetings. Parents, school and LCPS administrators, school board members and representatives from the Leesburg Police Department were invited to attend. The Community Meetings were moderated by the LCPS Superintendent and provided an opportunity for parents to ask questions, express concerns and begin the process of restoring communication and trust between them and staff at their children's schools.

Please sign this petition asking the LCPS School Board to arrange this kind of "Community Meeting" for the Tuscarora community. We have questions. We want answers. We need a way to re-establish open communication and trust between parents, students and school administrators.
