Petition to Stop Advertising Weight Loss Supplements

The Goal. To convince advertisers to stop promoting "weight-loss" supplements.

The Problem. Most weight-loss commercials these days promote products by showing unattainable body ideals and making people think that they aren't beautiful if they don't have rock-hard abs or a fashion model's physique. This negatively impacts our sense of self-worth and subsequently, our mental health and general well-being. Shaming people into buying products that don't work as promised is just pure evil.

What's worse is that these commercials treat obesity like a disease that can be "cured" by taking supplements. Keep in mind that these supplements just aren't the all-natural miracle cure for obesity that the products' manufacturers say they are.

The Solution. Eliminating the shame proliferated by weight-loss commercials is the first step towards rebuilding public confidence. Banning these commercials will halt the cycle that forces us to think less of ourselves because of how we look. And while obesity is an issue that deserves serious solutions, they should be presented to the public with more of a positive feel. There is no miracle cure to obesity, and advertisers should just focus on promoting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle instead.

Body image has a tremendous impact on self-confidence, mental health, and general well-being. Nobody should use that to shame people into buying into their false ideals. To know more, please visit here.
