Stop Stray cat and dog poisoning in Lebanon

  • by: tarik saab

Please help us force the local municipalities in Lebanon to stop the poisoning and shooting of stray cats and dogs.  Also help us put a stop to the killing of the endangered Hyenas by making it a felony to kill endangered animals.

When the municipalities were contacted they denied having anything to do with the incidents, according to them some unknown people have decided to put poison next to their homes and shops!

Rat poison is mainly being used, and in some cases "Lanette".
The rat poison used varies a lot, and it’s impossible to identify its color (even though it was reddish in many cases), and it is usually mixed with rice, grains, meat or anything edible… while the "Lanette" is white powder.

Please help us put a stop to this sensless slaughter of innocent animals.

Dear Mr. Salam,

Currently, the Lebanese government kills stray cats and dogs in the streets using guns and poison. This method of irradicating stray animal populations is ineffective, inefficient, and inhumane. Animal rights groups throughout the world urge the Trap-Neuter-Release method, in which strays are spaid or neutered to prevent the proliferation of feral colonies, rather than killed outright. Research shows that this method is much more effective in curbing explosive stray populations than wonton killing. It is also less violent and less toxic for the community.

In proving yourself as a leader who cares about human Lives & rights, please also consider the rights of animals in your legislation. Please join growing organizations like BETA Beirut for the Ethical Treatment of Animals  and Animals Lebanon, both of which seek to end animal cruelty and animal abuse. You can start by ending the killing of stray cats and dogs on Lebanon's streets.

As a fellow animal lover said and I quote, "We're not asking you to love them, but please don't hurt them, Stray cats and dogs"

Sincerely,

Tarik Saab
