Allowing truckers to smoke marijuana on their off time

    The issue.
Truckers and marijuana. Currently because it is federally illegal to have THC in your system if you have a CDL regardless why you're smoking or where you live. We need to change this nonsense. Everyone complains about government over reach but when it comes to this some of these people make me wonder why they complain about anything else. But the rest of us that are responsible adults and are in the know disagree.

The solution (at least until the Federal government wipes it off their little schedule)

Make it to where if you are driving in a state that marijuana is legal for whatever reason and either don't drive out of state or only drive in other states where it is legal then a drug test that comes up hot for THC can not disqualify you from having your CDL nor make you lose your job as long as you are not high when the test is being taken. Also it would be treated like alcohol in regards to when you can consume THC products. Unless medically necessary you cannot consume any THC products while working or within 3 hours of the beginning of your shift or within 24 hours of any accident regardless of who is at fault.

Why is this a good idea ??
    It just makes sense.
1.) Individuals who are great drivers wouldn't be barred from possessing a CDL just because they like to relax at home with THC products after a long time out on the road.
2.) It would increase the pool of drivers and ease the shortage of not only drivers but literally everything else.
3.) The states that do such things would be able to put pressure on the FMCSA to allow for CDL drivers to be able to enjoy THC products on their off time and possibly the rest of the government would follow suit.
4.) This could speed up development of on the spot rapid drug tests for accident scenes and pre shift.
5.) The promise of being the captain of your ship would be a little more realistic as there wouldn't be so much over reach.
6.) Those that need it for medical reasons wouldn't have to go back to big pharma and they could keep their medical card. And also wouldn't be barred from being able to have a CDL.
7.) It would increase state revenue via sales tax on marijuana, paraphernalia, and snack foods. (If the state in question makes money on said items)

    The down side...

1.) You'd still have irresponsible individuals that think they're gonna drive that 18 wheeler stoned AF...but we also have irresponsible individuals driving on hangovers / drunk AF currently

I can't think of any other cons at this time...but as it stands here the benefits outweigh the cons. It's time to do something that actually makes sense !!
