Help Make Colorado the First No-Kill State!

A proposed No-Kill Pet Animal Act seeks to enact a strict ban on euthanasia of shelter dogs and cats in the state of Colorado.

Currently, state law requires shelters to hold an animal for at least five days, after which the shelter may adopt it out or dispose of it at their discretion. In some counties, the holding period is only three days for pets without identification. These laws allow shelters to kill animals just to make room for others.

Colorado also allows shelters to put down animals if they're deemed dangerous or suffering. This results in animals being killed for common stomach viruses, nervousness, and other temporary and non-serious problems. So called "bully breeds" often suffer as a result of these rules.

The proposed euthanasia ban would allow animals to be put down only if seriously ill and untreatable, and a trained veterinarian would have to sign off on these cases. Please sign the petition to stand up for shelter animals and put an end to the senseless killing of shelter pets!
