MIDDLETOWN TWP TOWN HALL,
1 KINGS HWY in Middletown...

Please come and show support!!!! Your mere presence will speak volumes!

Woof! Faun need your help chasing puppy stores OUT of Middletown because they are using puppy mill dogs. We have the documentation but the town council need a push because they believe the dogs come from great places.

Brick, Point Pleasant and the Freehold Mall became the first places in NJ to ban puppy stores over the past year.

If you want to know why puppy stores are bad - the ASPCA has great website - http://nopetstorepuppies.com/puppy-mills-are-cruel

Many of you signed our last petition to help show these towns that the public agrees with the animal rescue community - that puppy stores have no place in family communities where pets should come only from reputable breeders or rescue organizations.

Monmouth County is well stocked with both & has recently made it even easier to adopt a puppy (because we know some people aren't sold on adults) with the opening of the Freehold Raceway Mall Adoption Center run by the MCSPCA recently featured in Bark Magazine. http://www.thebark.com/content/innovative-sheltering

FAUN NJ have now moved their attention to Middletown, because it is the home to a certain puppy store that lies to customers and tell them that the puppies come from 'good breeders'. FAUN has spent two years researching these claims and unfortunately have collected consumer contracts, local health department complaints and official USDA inspection reports for over two years now on their puppy suppliers.

Middletown Town Council see no problem with the stores, because they get their dogs there. The ambitious can contact them directly - http://www.middletownnj.org/content/committee.html

They also purchased from one of the worst puppy mills in the country (per the HSUS and Companion Animal Protection Society) from MN. We do not want to name the breeder here for legal reasons. This breeder was shutdown by the USDA and they were convicted of cruelty in 2010.  (We have their sales contracts proving they bought from them…all the while telling customers that they bought only from reputable breeders).

They often mark up their prices by 1000% and, if you don’t negotiate, you are stuck paying that price. In addition, they charge the following to the customer:

$60 freight fee (which is nothing more than charging back their cost of shipping the dog to them by tractor trailer).

$99 MANDATORY!!!  Pet Warranty which gives the customer nothing more than they get for FREE through the puppy lemon law in NJ.  (It is unconscionable.)

Banning puppy stores isn't just about removing financial support for inhumane breeding practices across the country. It's about protecting American families & honest communities from people who sell puppies from puppy mills and lie to consumers about it. The dogs are often sick from confined crowded transport and cages and you are essentially paying hundreds of dollars for an animal the store paid $60 for. There's a reason they fight so hard not to be shut down. They bleed communities dry financially at the expense of innocent dogs.

There are many reputable breeders in this area who charge LESS than these stores for properly bred pups that live in a loving home not a cage.

Please join us and sign this petition to tell Middletown City Council that they should follow in the footsteps of Brick and Point Pleasant & leave dog sales to local breeders instead of stores who buy from horrible puppy mills.
