Since 2012 when the Sandy Hook school shooting took the lives of 26 people, there have been almost 300 school shootings, and 18 in 2018 alone. We are not even through the 3rd month of this year and yet we are already up to 18 school shootings. Since the government won't make any big changes, students need to take control and demand change. Instead of going to school and being afraid of bad grades and that you forgot to do your homework the night before, students are afraid of their lives. No kids want there to be teachers who have guns on them, that would scare the students, and it would make it even easier for a child to get their hands on a gun. Putting police in and around the school wouldn't do much but terrorize students, even the high percentage of kids who aren't doing anything wrong. Japan averages around 10 gun deaths a year because of they're gun laws. In the UK, since the year of 2,000 the number of gun deaths annually has never gone over 7. The US has more school shootings then the rest of the world combined, so why is nothing changing? Not only in schools are there shootings though. Places like the Orlando shooting a while back taking the lives of many. If our government won't take charge and speak for the people, we have to make a voice for ourselves. We need to demand gun laws to make it extremely hard or impossible to get your hands on a gun. The UK has banned all firearms, and in Japan to get a gun you must take an all day class, pass a test, get 95% on shooting accuracy background checks, mental health inspections and other stuff. On top of that you have to repeat the process every 3.years. We need a law like that to ensure students and normal people's safety.
