Tell Comcast and the FCC: We Need Affordable Internet For All Now!

Candelaria Amador is looking for work and really needs Internet at home. "I was surprised to learn how much the Internet costs, and I cannot afford another bill now. I take care of older people in their homes, but two months ago I lost a client I was caring for. I support myself, and I decided I should learn to use the computer so I can find more clients in the online ads on Craigslist." But without Internet at home, she says it's very hard to find a job. She is not eligible for Comcast's low-cost Internet program, because the company only offers the program to low-income families with students at home.

There are millions of people who, like Candelaria, cannot afford Internet at home. This is especially true for people with disabilities, seniors, Latinos, non-English speakers and people with incomes below the poverty line.

Candelaria has a wish: "I hope the people in Washington, D.C. will help make the Internet more affordable so people like me can find jobs, email their grandkids, and I can help my friends learn about computers, too."

Now is the time to stand with Candelaria and for all who need affordable Internet at home!

Take action before the December 15 comment deadline: Tell the FCC to require Comcast and Time Warner to expand their affordable Internet programs to include people like Candelaria! Signing up for Internet access should be easier and more affordable. Because as Candelaria shares, "You really need the Internet these days, it's a necessity not a luxury."

Dear FCC Commissioners,

It's hard to imagine what it's like to live today without high speed Internet service at home. But the digital divide is the reality for one quarter of households in the U.S. This is especially true for people with disabilities, seniors, Latinos, non-English speakers and people with incomes below the poverty line. Now is the time to expand Comcast's affordable Internet for all.

If the FCC approves the proposed Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger, I urge you to include conditions that will improve and expand programs to deliver affordable Internet at home.

Please require Comcast to:

1. Expand the Internet Essentials service to ALL low-income households.
2. Enroll 45% of eligible households in 2 years.
3. Donate to independent funds for non-profits, libraries, and schools to sign up households.
4. Report to an oversight committee.
5. Offer Internet Essentials as a stand-alone program.

FCC, we need your support, please hold Comcast accountable.

Update #19 years ago
Thank you for calling on the FCC to require Comcast to expand its affordable Internet program! You're already making a difference -- Comcast has started to use our phrase "Internet for All" in some of their own promotional materials. That's a great first step, but the company needs to be held accountable for actual action.

It's now time for the FCC to consider the 33,000 signatures we submitted together. We'll keep you posted -- thanks again for raising your voice!
