Demand Governor Hogan Make Maryland Welcoming For Syrian Refugees

On November 17, Governor Hogan announced he was telling the federal government he does not want Maryland to take any more refugees from Syria. His stated reason is fear for the safety of Maryland residents in the wake of the Paris attacks. In doing so, Governor Hogan has joined a growing crowd of governors reacting in fear, turning aside from American values and doing what the terrorists want. The citizens of Maryland need to send Governor Hogan a clear message that we will not live in fear. We won't abandon our values. And we won't capitulate to terrorists.

Responding with fear to terror attacks if giving the terrorists what they want. If we shrink our lives and curtail our own liberties in a vain attempt to feel more safe, we are doing the terrorists' work for them. We must confront terror with hope. Confront fear with joy. Rather than trying to close our state to Syrian refugees, we should redouble our efforts to make Syrian refugees feel welcome in Maryland. After all, they are fleeing terror in Syria. We should show them that we will not allow terror to take root in our home, and we will not give in to the terrorists.

Please support this petition and help tell the governor of Maryland that we are not afraid and we expect our elected leaders to act with courage in the face of terror.
