Demand Justice for Penelope!

On the evening of June 22nd, good Samaritans rushed to Penelope’s aid and called an animal rescue group following an attack by two men on bikes on Detroit’s east side. Penelope, a beautiful white pit bull believed to be about 5, who has had a very rough go at life, was forced to continuously run while tied to a bike, in 90° weather, until she finally collapsed. The men then tried to get the dog to stand again by allegedly beating her, and when she couldn't stand back up, they left her lying on the ground. “She has bruises on her, is completely dehydrated, and seems to be giving up. Unfortunately, Penelope’s struggles did not end with her rescue, in part, because of a lifetime of neglect. Not only does she have heart worms, but Penelope also has had an unhealthy amount of litters of puppies and will need surgery to have her uterus removed. Detroit Dog Rescue workers and volunteers will be investigating in hopes of finding the men who reportedly left Penelope to die, but I’m urging the Detroit Police Department to investigate this crime & to charge the person responsible for this poor girls suffering. Animal abusers deserve strict punishment, and this is a horrible display of abuse!

PLEASE charge the person responsible for this blatant act of animal abuse!

Update #26 years ago
Update: Penelope has been moved from critical care to our primary vet, where she received a full work up, and a little reassurance from our intern. This sweet girl just wanted to kiss everyone, but most importantly, she wants to feel better. Her blood isn't coagulating, because she has some kind of rodent poisoning in her system, and her injuries and Heartworm are making her feel pretty tired. If you want to donate, you can make a contribution to her at DetroitDogRescue.com/donate. Thank you all

Also is dehydrated, showed signs of a lifetime of abuse, is underweight, uterus prolapsed, liver problems, heartworm positive - a long road ahead, but is expected to be as good as new. To help w/ costs of her treatment visit the Detroit Dog Rescue's donate tab. The description they have of the men is that they’re African-American, in their 20s, dark clothing.
