I have seen many cranes, beautiful wild birds in Florida, repeatedly hit and killed by cars along St. James, a street in Port ST Lucie, FL. In fact, I've seen 4 killed in the last week!
Last night, a huge alligator, over 10 feet long and probably 400 lbs, was hit. It was bleeding so badly that Fish and Game had no choice but to shoot it in order to put it out of it's misery...
The street is dark--and people tend to drive fast. By installing a light in front of River Place Development or Hammock Ct. Elementary School, the crances have a fighting chance of being able to cross the street before getting hit by a car. Other animals have been hit there too--turtles, raccoons, anteaters... Children crossing the street can be in danger as well--especially by the school.

Along St James, in Port St Lucie, the street is dark--and cars drive very fast. On an almost nightly basis, animals are being killed--from slow-moving turtles, to beautiful wild cranes, to a 10-foot long alligator. This is a tragedy--and completely unnecessary.
The installation of a traffic light, in front of River Place Development, or Hammock Court Elementary School, would slow traffic and give these animals and birds a fighting chance. It would illuminate the road and give drivers the chance to see these creatures and take necessary action to avoid hitting them. It will save lives--animal as well as human, as, at some point, a child could be crossing --especially by the school.
Please make this a Priority--and install a Traffic Light along St. James--and make Port St Lucie Safer for Humans and Animals!
