Allow Eagle Scout to Build Protective Cover for Westford Knight Carving

For the past year a local Eagle Scout applicant has been working on a project to build a cover to protect the historic Westford Knight Carving in Westford, Massachusetts. This carving has been slowly wearing away due to direct exposure to the elements. In order to gain support for this project the Eagle Scout has met with neighborhood groups and local historic groups, as well as Westford governmental entities such as the Board of Selectmen, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Building Department, and Highway Department. All have supported both the project and its design.

Unfortunately, just as the Eagle Scout was set to begin actual work, a neighboring property owner filed a lawsuit against the Eagle Scout attempting to block the project. This property owner had never attended a single meeting or hearing regarding this project, and had never contacted the Eagle Scout in any way prior to filing the lawsuit. The Eagle Scout met with the property owner in an attempt to resolve this issue but the property owner so far has refused to withdraw the lawsuit.

The signers of this petition respectfully request that the property owners—Brian F. McLarney and Cheryl A. McLarney of 20 Depot Street, Westford, MA—withdraw their lawsuit blocking this Eagle Scout project, with the understanding that the Eagle Scout will work with them to address any specific design modifications they may desire.
