Stand Against Housing Projects in Australia's Vulnerable Wetlands!

The Australian government has decided to approve developers looking to build houses along the Powling Street wetlands, one of the few places in the country where the protected Latham's snipe resides.

Building the 31 new residential areas in the grasslands by the wetlands, would disturb the Latham's snipe, a protected migratory bird who uses these grounds for feeding. Every year, the Latham's snipe migrates from Russia to the Australian wetlands to feed; it is essential that the area be preserved for their use.

Any more homes will scare off these birds, making it harder to protect them. Please tell the Australia government to stand against these housing projects in the vulnerable wetlands!

Dear Australia Government,

Please reverse the decision to allow developers to build more houses, including 31 new residential areas and a reserve at Mills Crescent, by the wetlands at PORT Fairy. This 2.5 hectare area in the grasslands needs to be preserved for the Latham's snipe, a protected migratory bird that uses these grounds for feeding.

The Latham's snipe comes all the way from Russia and Japan where they breed, and there is no other known site where they come together at this level. Any more homes will scare off the species, making it more difficult to protect them.

Thank you for your time.
