Tell the Media: Hold Presidential Candidates Accountable for their Climate Denial!

Newly announced Presidential candidate Ted Cruz is wrong about the science of our climate crisis. He’s stated that “for the last 17 years there’s been zero warming — none whatsoever.” And pointed to snow in New Hampshire as somehow refuting the scientific consensus about our irrefutably warming earth.

Even worse, when challenged by the scientists whose work he’s misrepresented, he’s claimed he’s like “Gallilao” and said that “global warming alarmists are the equivalent of the flat-Earthers.”

Journalists are faced with a clear choice, either repeat scientifically inaccurate and disproven talking points without question, or force the facts into their coverage, by reporting when politicians lie about the climate crisis.

The media can not continue to allow candidates to lie on the record about the science of climate change. The debate can no longer be about whether global warming is real, it must be about what each candidate plans to do about it.

2014 was the hottest year on record. The historic and ongoing drought in California is caused by global warming, and it is increasing prices consumers are paying for food. The Greenland ice sheet is melting faster than scientists predicted, fueling a rise in sea levels. The impacts of our politicians' unwillingness to address the climate crisis are happening now and growing more severe every day.

Sign our petition and demand the media do their job, and force the facts into political coverage of the climate crisis.

The issue of human caused climate change is too significant to allow politically popular lies to be reported as facts, simply because a candidate makes a statement on the campaign trail. Please ensure your coverage of the political campaigns of climate change deniers ALWAYS corrects inaccurate and untrue characterizations of this issue, and instruct your reporters to challenge mistruths when repeated in question and answer sessions with climate change denying candidates.
