Roselle Board of Education: DO IT AGAIN! DO IT RIGHT!

It’s almost unconscionable.

Having been rejected by voters for a seat in the State Senate, Roselle Board of Education President Donna Obe has decided once again to ignore the progress being made in Roselle and reward former Mayor Garrett Smith and a company he is associated with Alamo Insurance with a $7.5 million employee health insurance benefit contract from the Board of Education – which amounts to a $300,000 commission straight into Smith’s and company’s pocket. What’s even worse is how she, fellow board member Anthony Esposito, and their allies on the Board did it.  Without an honest and open process that should include presentations and interviews from various firms, they replaced a contractor with one of her political friends who was also rejected by Roselle voters and to this day is still under indictment– for insurance fraud!

The time has come for Ms. Obe, Mr. Esposito, and Mr. Smith to finally realize that taxpayers in Roselle will not stand for the disgusting politics of the past. We demand a special meeting of the Board of Education for the purpose of rescinding the contract to Alamo Insurance, and to hold a fair, open, and honest process to award contracts.

We will not be deterred from keeping progress in Roselle.

Dear Ms. Obe,

As concerned taxpayers and residents, we are very disappointed with the recent and drastic action taken by the Board of Education in awarding a $7.5 million employee health insurance benefit contract to Alamo Insurance. Although this was an action supported fiercely by yourself and fellow Board member Anthony Esposito, we remain hopeful that you will reconsider your positions.

While we have many concerns over what transpired, our main objection lies directly with Alamo Insurance, and its associate, former Mayor Garrett Smith.  Not only has Mr. Smith been soundly rejected by Roselle voters, but to this day remains under indictment – for insurance fraud.  Not only do we find it outrageous that you would approve a $300,000.00 commission fee to be sent to Alamo Insurance, but also that you would put faith in an individual who remains under indictment for fraud.

Additionally, we feel the manner in which you, Mr. Esposito, and other members of the Board took this action has tarnished the integrity of the Board of Education. Roselle taxpayers and Roselle schools deserve better.

We request you call a special meeting to rescind the awarding of this contract, and pledge to hold fair, open, and honest proceedings to award all future contracts.

Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.
