Many of us have both male and female loved ones who are incarcerated. true they get 3 meals a day, but their main source of "nutrition" consists of candy and over processed foods. many of them are at high risk for or already have Diabetes. we need this trend in the jail and prison system to cease.
Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama, On behalf of over at least a billion friends and family that have at least one or more family member or aquaintance of some sort Incarcerated either prestently or have had one in the past. the conditions in wich our friends and loved ones have daily meals is deplorable. the 3 meals a day they recieve on a daily basis is not one that you would want them to eat if they were on the other side of the fence. most inmates do not trust the other inmates working in the kitchen preparing and handeling their food. they resort to outside canteen/store purchaces bought with money that we as friends and family put on their books for them to make said purchaces. the contents supplied in canteen/store are no doubt supplied to be traded. it consists of candy,soda, meat "like" products like "slim jims", over processed cheese (dip), and pastries like honey bunns and swiss rolls. nothing about these choices are good. the Jails and Prisons only care about supplying enough daily calorie intake of 1,500-2,000 not the nutritional value. I have seen the both of you rally for healthier school lunches for school children. but what about the health and well being of the parent or parent's of those school children? they run the risk of extremly high cholestorol levels and becoming diabetic by the time they are released and come home. I am begging you, please change the policy on healthier food choices in both County Jails and State Prisons around the world. Thank You for your time.
