Save the Pigeon River F&WA campground

1.  Pigeon River F&WA campground is a unique spot in northern Indiana.  The only truly primitive campground in the upper third of the state.  A beautiful, natural setting, with spacious campsites, and plenty of shade.  The only campground in northern Indiana that caters to tent and pop up campers.  Where you can enjoy an outdoors experience without the drone of RV a/c and television.  A place where you can begin to train the next generation of sportsmen to love nature and the outdoors.  The generation that will support DNR properties for decades to come.
2.  Closing this campground creates a hardship for young families, families of limited means, and senior citizens, especially those on a fixed income.  I camp at this campground a number of times a year, and I can tell you that besides paddlers, these are the people who occupy this campground the most.  This is literally the only place to camp and enjoy the outdoors that many people can afford.
3.  Impact on local businesses.  Being the leader of a major paddling group in Indiana, I know how much money gets spent when one of these groups comes to town.  This will impact not only your business, but places like Howe Restaurant, Chubby's, Mr. Bratz, the grocer and hardware stores in Orland.  Not to mention places like Sarge's, the Wall Lake Tavern, and Dark Horse Saloon.  Even the outfitters will suffer.  Almost every time I have ever camped there, large groups, usually extended families, have come to camp and go on a canoeing excursion.

This campground is important to paddlers, families, seniors, hunters, fishermen, and especially the community.  It is a beautiful and unique place that deserves to be preserved for the enjoyment of both this and future generations!  Please restore this campground to operation!
