Tell FCUK to stop its production of angora products immediately, and save the bunnies!

French Connection must have missed the memo: plucking angora rabbits of all their long, soft fur for mass-produced jumpers, scarves and hats causes untold suffering and trauma to the animals. That’s what we told clothing retailers like Asos, Zara, and Topshop when we made them halt production of angora products last year.

French Connection also halted all production of angora products then, but it never committed to a ban -- it has now started selling some items including angora in its A/W collection.

Tell FCUK to stop its production of angora products immediately, and save the bunnies!

The UK-based global retailer says it buys angora fur “only from approved suppliers” and tells customers who complain that it ensures angora rabbits are not mistreated. But we know the conditions that these rabbits really endure -- workers in China were secretly filmed by PETA plucking angora rabbits while they scream. Plucking a rabbit without causing harm takes up to two weeks of gently removing the loosened hair, but here it takes only a few, violent minutes.

After this torturous experience, which the rabbits endure every three months, many of them appeared to go into shock, lying motionless inside their tiny, filthy cages.

FCUK already knows this -- that's why it actually agreed to halt production of angora products last year when the video was released. So, why has its empathy for the rabbits' suffering already run dry?

Tell French Connection we don’t want to see angora on its shelves. Cease production of angora products once and for all!

Ninety percent of angora fur comes from China, where there are no penalties for abuse of animals on farms and no standards to regulate the treatment of the animals. The reason for this cruelty comes down to profit, pure and simple. Angora has a trade value of £22 to £28 per kilogram, but the longer hair that comes from plucking, as opposed to shearing, can sell for more than double that.

Last year we had a major victory, forcing huge clothing retailers Topshop, Zara and Asos to halt the sale and production of angora items. Over 300,000 SumOfUs members signed petitions to these companies, kept the pressure up by commenting on the their Facebook pages and tweeting, making campaign graphics, writing personal letters and even visiting its stores and speaking to staff. We spoke up and the corporations listened. But now the victory we won for consumers and bunnies alike is at risk.

Unbelievably, French Connection’s current in-store and online marketing campaign features models cuddling cute rabbits! Let's rally to tell French Connection to commit to a ban on angora and pull all items containing angora from their stores.
