Include CeCe Devaney's film, "Paintbrushes," in the SLOHS Senior Showcase!

SLOHS Administration has censored CeCe Devaney's film from being included in the 2016 Senior Showcase. We believe this is unwarranted censorship, and we want the film included. Seniors, other SLOHS students, and supportive parents and community members can sign this petition to send a message to the SLOHS administration team that this film is a valid creative effort and important expression of the teenage experience, and as such deserves a place in the showcase.

Dear Principal O'Connor and the SLOHS Administrative Team,

We, the undersigned, request that you include CeCe Devaney's film, "Paintbrushes," in our 2016 Senior Showcase.

To our understanding, you rejected this film because you found it to be too provocative and unsuited for the Senior Showcase. We disagree. Not only has CeCe spent a great deal of time and effort creating this beautiful film and deserves to have it recognized in the Showcase, but additionally:

  • It poetically protrays the real struggles of teenagers and the high school experience;

  • The writing, music, videos, and composition as a whole are captivating;

  • While touching on some of the darkness often experienced at this age through CeCe's raw confessions, the film is perfectly balanced with hope and belief in the future;

  • The ending of the film leaves you with a positive outlook at what is to come post-high school.

Shown at the Senior Showcase, Cece's film has the potential to connect with every one of us who, though unique and often disconnected, have all shared in the experience of growing up, learning who we are, and figuring out how to make our own choices in this world.

Include "Paintbrushes" by Cora in the 2016 SLOHS Senior Showcase.
