Stop Proposed Cuts To The Manitoba Children's Museum

Did you know that the Children’s Museum receives much-needed funding from the City of Winnipeg? In 2015 this grant was $120,000. These funds are significant in helping us provide creative learning experiences at the museum for the children and families in our community.

Imagine our disappointment when we learned that the City of Winnipeg Museums Board submitted its 2016 grant recommendations to the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks on October 9, 2015, in which they proposed a 25% cut to the Children’s Museum’s funding, which amounts to an overall decrease of $30,000. This cut will affect the Children’s Museum’s ability to deliver programs and services to our community.

The Children’s Museum has already made significant cuts to our staffing and operating budget in the past. If the 2016 City of Winnipeg recommended budget cut stands, we will be faced with difficult decisions that could directly impact our visitors and programming – such as limiting or eliminating non-revenue generating programs (like the Free2Play Access Program that provides free museum visits and services to under-supported children in our community) – or increasing museum admission or membership rates as we look for ways to keep our budget balanced in 2016.

We want you to know that although we are making our voices heard regarding this proposed cut, we need your voices to join ours in order to make an even greater impact.

If you value the impact the Children’s Museum has on your social or professional wellbeing – then we need your help.

TELL THE CITY THAT YOU SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM. TELL THE CITY THAT YOU ARE OPPOSED TO THE PROPOSED FUNDING CUT TO THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM.
