Help Myrtle Find Her Forever Home!

Please sign the petition to help Myrtle the Turtle find a more appropriate forever home! Myrtle is a bronze created by Nancy Schön, the artist who created the Ducklings sculptures in the Public Garden. The metal sculpture presents dangers and interferes with the children’s use of the toddler playground. In addition to getting too hot in the sun, Myrtle’s shell is too steep for children to climb safely, she is mounted on exposed granite which is dangerous when children fall, her rubber safety zone is too small to meet safety criteria, and she is a metal trip hazard in the middle of the playground. She, plus her safety zone, occupy a significant portion of the small playground and sadly prevent the children from playing freely in the middle of the playground. Like the Ducklings, Myrtle should make her forever home in one of the City’s many parks like the Public Garden or move a few blocks to the shady Temple Street Park where she will be welcomed with open arms for all to enjoy and where she will not endanger toddlers.
