DHS: Listen to the Courts on Trump's Travel Ban

  • by: Kevin Mathews
  • recipient: Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly

President Donald Trump's executive order to restrict Muslims and refugees from entering the country caught even the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by surprise. Though four separate federal court judges quickly put a hold on DHS enforcing the order, it appears that some employees have continued to follow the word of Trump rather than the court.

That's now how our republic - with deliberate checks and balances - works. The judicial branch is allowed to intervene when they worry that the president's actions are unconstitutional. We ask that Secretary Kelly instruct his department to follow the law and adhere to the court's decision on this matter.
