Demand the Eighth Grade field trip to Washington DC

In the years our children have been in the seats here at CMS, the big event was the field trip to Washington, DC. Now that our students are now eighth graders are at CMS they were told of this field trip that was their reward is now canceled due to the testing of PARCC, this is unfair for their years of hard work and participation. This is discriminatory against the current student body and the parents that feel their students should have the same experiences as those in the past. Students enjoy the sights of far-off cities, get hands-on education and learn a thing or two about independence and by relating directly to the educational program being taught; “designed to advance or further student learning and inquiry, and provide opportunities for social growth and development.” Students’ learning will be assessed in the same way, when they travel to Washington D.C.. The option is to take an overnight bus trip to Washington, D.C., where students and chaperones will stay in the 4 star hotels and stay for 3 nights and 4 days just as preivious student body have experienced. This trip will highlight resources in our nation’s capital and surrounding areas. We as parents are outraged that our children are yet again being punished to benefit federal funding for the school.

As parents we will opt our eighth graders out of your PARCC testing as a group and NO you will not be logging our children in and showing our children as failures when its the system failing our children not our children failing your system. We demand action and our students right to experience the same as all others be reinstated. Thank you for your cooperation.
