TIME TO CHANGE THE NOVA SCOTIA MAINTENANCE ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM

The Nova Scotia Maintenance Enforcement Program (NSMEP) has been neglected by our government for decades. Since Darrell Dexter moved NSMEP to New Waterford this barely working system, deteriorated rapidly. Some have asked since our government is predominantly male, is it possible that this system that benefits children, is neglected because 97% of the payers are men? Custodial parents are frustrated with the abuse of this disappointing system. NSMEP is understaffed and officers are overwhelmed with cases that they cannot give propper attention to. Some officers have little or no knowledge of the program. Payers in arrears have mastered the system and realize there will be no penalties to NOT paying their support and following through with COURT ORDERS. It is time for change. NSMEP are not enforcing orders to their full capability; seizing bank accounts, property and or jail time and so much more. Those in arrears dodge the system by not providing updated information so legal documents cannot be delivered causing all action to STOP. We have children going hungry, homeless, living without basic day to day neccessities because of deadbeat parents and a government who does not think their needs are important enough to fix this system. Together we are going to change this system to make it work for our children and show a united front. PLEASE SIGN. THANK YOU!
