Wisconsin: Let Veterans Vote!

  • by: Ann W

Imagine that you are a veteran- willing to put your life on the line for your country - only to come home and face homelessness, poverty and illness; sometimes as a direct result of this sacrifice. Then, to add insult to injury, government officials stop you from voting because they don't consider your veterans identification card suitable proof of your right to vote! Well, this is exactly what law makers in Wisconsin are doing and it needs to stop!

A veteran's identification card is different from that of an active members identification. However, it is still issued by the federal government, with all the same proof of identity requirements having been met.

According to the ACLU, the Wisconsin government has created a law that "purposefully excluded forms of ID held primarily by people from less advantaged backgrounds."

It's bad enough that so many of our veterans fall into the "less advantaged background" but to remove their right to vote if they have to use a veterans identification card is downright immoral!

Please demand that this law be changed to reflect the respect owed to our nations veterans!

Attn: Members of the Wisconsin Legislature

We (the undersigned) are appalled that Wisconsin has implented a law that prevents veterans from voting if they have to use their veterans i.d. to prove their identity.

As you are surely aware, many of our veteran's are already struggling with an array of financial, mental and physical issues that puts them in a disadvantaged category of citizens.

There can be no good or logical reason to prevent our veterans from using their government issued VIC as proof of their identity.

Please reverse this unjust decision and allow our veterans to vote!
