Pass Moratorium Against The Trade Of Salamanders

There is a constant regarding the health and well-being of the Salamanders, especially in North America.  With the trade of salamanders into the United States, it has been discovered that a fungus that has been killing these animals in Europe, the illness is now spreading to this country.  North America is currently home to about half of all the salamander species.

Scientists and biologists have been pushing for a halt on the pet salamander trade, at least until they can determine and stop this spread of fungus that is killing so many salamanders.  It is sad enough that these animals are become endangered due to these illnesses, but trading them across the border to the United States is passing on the fungal disease here.  As stated by Biologist Dr. Vredenburg in San Francisco, “You would think there would be something in place to save and protect these animals.  We really need a government agency at some level to take action and do something.” He continued on the issue by saying that “People really didn’t believe that something could happen that was so bad. I really don’t want to see that happen again.”

The full story can be found at  http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/04/science/importing-both-salamanders-and-their-potential-destruction.html?ref=topics&_r=0 We have to consider the health and well-being of these animals as the widespread fungus issue is being investigated and resolved.  We are asking the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Services to pass moratorium against the trade of salamanders, at least until the salamanders back to a healthy state without threat of a fungal disease and other methods that lead to endangerment. You can help to save these animals and support this issue by signing and sharing this petition.

The United States Fish And Wildlife Services – We strongly urge that you pass moratorium against the trade of salamanders to the United States, at least until the issues of their health are investigated and resolved.  These animals are currently in danger of a fungal disease in Europe that is leading to frequent deaths.  Don’t allow these animals to be crossing our borders here, carrying the disease and leading to further endangerment here.  Stop the trade of these animals.
