Walmart: Stop Selling Shrimp Produced by Slave Labor!
A new report by The Guardian found that shrimp sold in major supermarkets throughout the U.S. and U.K. is being produced with the help of cruel slave labor.
Thailand-based Charoen Pokphand, or CP Foods, is the world's largest shrimp supplier, selling to major supermarkets such as Walmart, Costco and Tesco. They feed their shrimp with fishmeal produced by slaves working off Thailand's coast.
Interviews with escaped slaves reveal that captive fishmeal ship laborers are being forced to work for no pay, and are tortured, beaten and sometimes murdered in front of other laborers. Some are fed meth to fuel their long work days. One victim said he had witnessed 20 other slaves killed in front of him, one tied limb by limb to four boats and pulled apart at sea.
If major supermarkets are turning a blind eye to these abuses and profiting from them, who knows where the rest of their products come from. Please sign the petition to urge Walmart and other retailers to stop selling these shrimp and any other goods produced by slave labor!
