Stop Meijer End Unjustly Treatment For Employees and Shoppers

Please read this letter that was written to the Meijer Corporate Office.
5-19-14 3:40pm  Meijer 8000 E Broad St, Reynoldsburg, OH 43004

To whom it may concern,

    I went to the Meijer at 8000 e broad st in Reyonlodsburg,Ohio. I did my normal shopping. I shopped at this location for 6 years almost every day. I decided i was thirsty after i bought my items through the line. I went to get a frosty and got side tracked and forgot to pay for the frosty. As i was leaving i got raided by 4 people as if i had stole very expensive merchandise. They asked me to follow them. They would not let my mother in the room. I am 19 years old. I kept telling them i had to pick up my brother from school. They ignored. My mother asked for her purse and car keys. They said if she interrupted one more time they would call the police.

    I was scared. As she was giving my moms purse to her she noticed a can of oysters. I told her i would gladly pay for the item but she refused. That was also a honest mistake i was trying to explain to her. She began to become very upset and would not listen to me. Again i told her i would pay for the items it was a misunderstanding. All four people were very rude to me and i was very intimidated. They interrogated me as if i shot someone. I was in tears and still no one would listen. I kept telling the lady it would not make sense for me to steal one thing if i bought a cart full of stuff. The woman was very rude to my mother and to me. My mother has anxiety and other nerve problems. She began to feel ill from all of this stress and had an attack in the store. They still were very rude. She was she upset she took the items back to customer service and told them she would never shop there again. I stood by my mother to help her but they said they would call the police if i didn’t leave.

     I left and my mother told me they were very rude and would not give her her money back. At first they gave a gift card to her but she told them she did not want to shop there anymore and to give her cash. They would not give her 79 cents for her carrots. She left crying and upset. We both have choose not to shop at any meijer stores or gas stations. There are also several other times we did not report mistreatment and being over-charged at this location. The cashiers are also very rude and very slow.We just wanted you to be aware of how we have been treated at this store and that no one else endures what we have.

    I have been profiled before and it really hurt me but after this i was extremely embarrassed and I was afraid to go into any store. If an employee asked if everything was okay i think that they are following me and trying to accuse me of stealing.This has really psychologically damaged me. I never want to go through that experience again. I don’t remember the officer lady’s name she is an  old very unattractive woman with long blonde hair but I remember the manager’s name was amber she is a really big lady a good 600lbs at least you cant miss her and the door man’s name was an old Caucasian  male named Bill who was a false witness against me. She lied and told me the fine would be $65 but it was $200 they said i could make 4 payments of $55 but that was a lie also. I have to pay $62 plus $7.50 for a fee.

    Furthermore Our shopping experiences have always been horrible. My mom is a single mother so she tries to save as much as she can. Every time when use coupons they treat us like dogs. Half of the time they wont except them.  They lie about their sales. I had to go take a picture of the price tag to prove to sale. You can easily overspend in the store the prices are too high. I will always shop at other stores such as Kroger and target because the prices at Meijer are ridiculous there’s no wonder why they are a billion dollar company and Kroger they don’t bother you when you use coupons and the employees don’t treat you bad. My friend that used to work at this location said they fired her for letting someone use her discount card, tried to fine her $65 and prosecute her for theft.

    The letter concludes. The sender was told there was nothing they can do and to have a good day.

    This is not only incident at this store. Many reports are from minorities. Some not even reported. There have been several reports such as selling recalled items including putting recalled baby items on clearance instead of getting rid of them which is an extreme hazard and expired food, racist and other discriminative acts, undeserved fines and arrest, and even to my surprise other people have reported being treated badly for using coupons as if they are stealing and some fined. Not only do they treat their customers bad but also their employees. They are paid low wages and given the most work. I had many friends thats worked there when we were in school they would make them take off school days to come to work. They feel as if your education should be interfered in order to help people check out in line. They work crazy un-ethical hours.They are treated like slaves even the elderly people but in a more legalized way and even my friend that was special they treated him the worse. No one should be treated like that. Most of the people who work there don’t have an education and their bosses know that they have to accept what they give or be homeless. Also i found out they get paid to catch thieves so they accuse people of stealing to make an extra buck.

    Please do not support a store like this. If you support this store you must think that this treatment and work ethic is okay. You would have to be a completely heartless to ignore this and spineless to not help me stop this. I need good strong people to stand with me against Meijer for there greed,cruelty, and un-ethical practices. These are peoples lives they are playing with while they sit on billions of dollars. This has to stop.
