Save a Child

Every year, every summer,  every winter, we hear in the news about a child dying because they were left inside of a hot car or in frigid temperatures. We read about animals being left in a hot car & dying.

Once is one too many.  Yet no matter how many times it's on the news, we hear about it all the more. This should not be. Ever. Not even by accident or forgetfulness.

I believe it should be a federal law for every car manufacturer selling cars on the United States that they be required to install on all vehicles sensors in every seat that will sound a loud alarm when the car is turned off & key is removed from the ignition and the driver's seat is empty when anything weighing 5Lbs or more is left in any seat in the vehicle. Car mmanufacturers install so many things. Many not necessary. I'd rather see a feature that saves lives than a video player or extra cup holders. This should be a standard feature in every single vehicle from the least expensive to the most expensive luxury vehicles. There is no reason this cannot be done. My vehicle's airbag light goes on when I have stuff in the passenger seat & the seat belt isn't used because it is the contents of my overly stuffed purse, totebag & lunchbag I bring to work. So if my airbag light can light up then I see no reason sensors cannot be installed to sound an alarm in the situation when there is weight of 5Lbs or more in back seats that would sound an alarm once the vehicle is turned off & driver leaves their seat. This would force the driver to look at the back seats, not forget what is there & remove it. If it is ssomething other than a child or animal causing the alarm,  then have an override button that can be pushed that will silence the alarm.

You may think what good will it do if the alarm can be turned off without removing what is causing the alarm to sound.  Well it's simple. I understand we all sometimes put packages in the back seat. So having an alarm sounding off until you can get all of your packages out can be annoying. HHowever,  if the thing causing the alarm to sound is a child or animal left behind or forgotten,  then when the person who deactivated the alarm did so & left the child or animal behind to die or suffer life-threatening injuries due to being left in the hot or frigid temperatures in the car that person could not say they "forgot" and be held as possibly criminally negligent.

The feature could be so that if the weight is still in the seats for more than 5 minutes after the alarm is deactivated, the alarm would sound again.  This way if what was left behind & ignored by deactivating the alarm,  would hopefully alert someone else that a child or animal was left in a car.

I truly believe something like this could help to save lives. I don't know about you, any of you reading this,  but I for one am sick of reading & hearing in the news year after year about a child or animal dying because they were left inside of a hot car.

Please sign this petition. Please pass it along. Share it with all of your friends,  everyone you know. Ask them to do the same. Let's see if we can get something into place that will require. This feature on every vehicle in the United States. Let's see if we can save some lives. Please.

Thank you in advance for your time reading this & for your consideration & for sharing this if you decide to.
