My daughter, Ebony Swaby was murdered by her boyfriend on May 7, 2016, just 58 days after she gave birth to her daughter, Egypt, and just one day before she was to celebrate her first Mother's day.
Egypt is now in the custody of The Waterbury Department of Children and Families as the result of her mother's death. The Department is working with the murder's family to give them custody of my granddaughter. I don't have a criminal record and I'm not on the DCF abuse registry so why is my granddaughter still in foster care? Why is DCF working with the alleged father's family, and not me? The issue of paternity is in question with the father. There is no issue of paternity with Egypt and I. I am Ebony's mother, and Egypt is Ebony's daughter. Why can't I have my granddaughter?

All I've ever wanted was to raise my granddaughter, Egypt. I've done everything DCF has asked of me, and yet Egypt is still in foster care. I've been told that a decission would be had soon. Not soon enough for me. Our next court date isn't until Sept 13, 2016. She'll be 6 months old by then. I'd like to know if her paternal aunt was subjected to a 16 hour evaluation, and a hair follicle drug test would she still want Egypt? I think not.
