There are current plans for a Soda Mountain Solar project right in the midst of the Mojave National Preserve. The project would provide a facility big enough to produce enough electricity for an estimated 170,000 homes but the concern is the effect this project would have on local wildlife. The recent concern is that the Obama Administration already gave the green light to this project, one that would harm Mojave National Preserve and important desert wildlife. There was great opposition from the National Park Service as well as local communities, tribes and scientists. The belief is that the project could be built elsewhere that would not cause harm to the beautiful Mojave National Preserve which is a key habitat for desert bighorn sheep.
The effort in this petition is to encourage the Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell to stop this project that is potentially harmful to the national parks and wildlife. You can help in this effort by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments.
Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewell – I am very disturbed that the Soda Mountain Solar project has been approved, subjecting wildlife and the environment of the Mojave National Preserve to virtual harm and damage. Wildlife would be negatively affected, including the desert bighorn sheep. Such a decision does not support the decisions of the scientist’s recommendations, along with that of the National Park Service. There is extreme opposition from Native American tribes, local communities, environmentalists, business and scientists. I urge you to give full support for the National Park Service and indeed deny and oppose this Soda Mountain Solar project.
