In a well-meaning but misguided attempt to curb animal overpopulation, the California city of Antioch is considering several revisions to its ordinances governing the keeping and feeding of animals. Unfortunately, some of these changes would negatively impact animals while doing little to nothing to reduce animal overpopulation at its root. Some also penalize those rescuing and fostering animals.
We propose making several modifications to the proposed changes. The specifics of these modifications may be found in the peition letter. The original letter was written by Liz Dodge, an active member of the feral cat and cat rescue community in the California Bay Area.
