Make UK pet insurance clear and honest

Over half of UK pet owners don't have insurance for their pets. Why?

One of the biggest barriers to owners getting insurance is the unclear wording and content of insurance policies, according to a report from Consumer Intelligence. The Ombudsman also notes confusing wording as one of the biggest issues brought to them by insurance customers.

As a pet owner, I have struggled to understand the terms of insurance policies, or what exactly is covered by the plans available. It's difficult to know how to keep my beloved pets safe.

Owners without insurance are vulnerable when their pet gets sick or has an accident. With the average vet's bill at a staggering 700 pounds, serious illness or accidents often mean going into debt - or a pet going without treatment.

Clearer pet insurance terms would mean more owners feeling confident taking out insurance - which would mean less stress and heartbreak for owners and our beloved companions.

Please sign my petition to demand that UK pet insurers are given stricter standards to meet in terms of clear wording and content of insurance policies, including a glossary for any important terms.

If enough people sign, the government will recognise that this is a pressing issue that needs legislating. Let's help keep the UK's pets safe and healthy!

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

Over half of UK pet owners do not have insurance for their animals. With the average vet's bill at £700, this means people risk huge debts when their pet falls ill or has an accident.

One of the main reasons for owners not getting insurance is the confusing wording and content of insurance policies. UK pet owners need the UK goverment to tighten the requirements for pet insurers so that wording and content are completely clear, and come with a glossary of important terms.
