After Friday's performance, the cast of the award-winning Broadway musical "Hamilton" had a message for Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who was in the audience. The message was respectful and measured, but fairly criticized his policies that have separated us by race, class, gender, and sexual orientation. (The full speech is below).
Unsurprisingly, shortly thereafter, President-elect Donald Trump tweeted that the cast needs to apologize and said that Pence was "harassed." All this despite Trump's constant insults toward others on stages across the country and on Twitter, about which he cited his 1st amendment right to say such things.
This petition is to stand in solidarity with the brave cast members of Hamilton, and respond to the ridiculous hypocrisy and double standard that would somehow make what they said unacceptable while our President-elect can attack anyone he likes in much harsher terms. But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us. Again, we truly thank you truly for (sharing) this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds and orientations."
