Golden Gate National Recreation Area - Tell Bottled Water to Take a Hike!

California is suffering through an historic drought. And at the same time, corporations like Nestlé are bottling the state’s precious water and selling it for profit.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area, one of our country’s most visited national parks, has an opportunity to take a stand to protect the environment and send a clear message to the bottled water industry: Our water, like our national parks, is not for sale!  By going bottled water free and ensuring access to clean, safe tap water, Golden Gate can demonstrate its leadership as a steward of the environment and of California’s precious water.

In our national parks, plastic bottles are a huge source of waste -- making up about a third of all garbage in surveyed parks. And the bulk of that trash comes from disposable water bottles. That’s why more and more national parks are taking a stand and going bottled water free, choosing to install sustainable bottle refilling stations instead.

It’s time for Golden Gate to join the City of San Francisco and over 75 other national parks, and tell bottled water to take a hike.

Let’s show Golden Gate National Recreation Area that the public overwhelmingly supports a bottled water free policy.  Sign the petition and tell Superintendent Lehnertz to protect the environment and California’s water by going bottled water free!

National parks that adopt bottled water free policies are aligning themselves with the mission of the National Park Service and its commitment to sustainability and responsible management of natural resources.

During this time of historic drought in California, it is especially important for Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) to promote and protect the environment by going bottled water free and increasing access to tap water for park goers. By doing so, GGNRA can demonstrate its leadership as a steward of the environment and of California’s precious water resources.

I call on Golden Gate National Recreation Area to go bottled water free as soon as possible.
