Red light cameras in the city of Lakewood, Washington

To Lakewood City Hall (Washington State)

Please tell the deciders at Lakewood City Hall to end the use of red light cameras immediately or put it to a vote.

These members are desperate to continue this easy money-grab on the backs of motorists.  They refuse to admit that this is being used to cash in on unsuspecting citizens and visitors who are too intimidated and will just pay the citation.   Review of the annual reports and financial summary and budgets made available on-line by the city of Lakewood do not account for the revenue generated from the use of these red light cameras: nor is there any financial breakdown where this revenue is being allocated.

On October 14th a similar petition was brought to Snohomish board members and similar grass root petitions are now becoming more prevalent in thhe state of Washington asking to remove or put it on the ballot and let the voters decide.  It is important to let Lakewood City Hall know it is time for them to listen to what people want and to provide an accounting for this revenue.   Cities all over the country have already removed the red light cameras because data confirms that red light cameras do not reduce accidents.  Use of these red light cameras is a  violation of our rights protected by the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 14th amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the undersigned urge the City of Lakewood, Washington to remove or ban the continued use of Unmanned Traffic Control Devices used to generate tickets, specifically red light cameras; with no exception.
