SC – Ensure Tougher Protection of Animals through Animal Cruelty Registry

  • by: Sue Lee

South Carolina is one of the many states taking some critical steps in escalating their animal protection laws, according to the Animal Legal Defense Fund.  Read more on their laws and animal protection statutes at http://www.wistv.com/story/28548733/animal-protection-laws & https://www.animallaw.info/statute/sc-cruelty-consolidated-cruelty-statutes

Currently, there are felony penalties statewide but animal rights activists claim that the laws in South Carolina need to be stricter to be effective.  A huge problem in the state is not only abuse and cruelty but neglect.  In order to help their defenseless animals statewide, I encourage the implementation and strict enforcement of an animal cruelty registry database.

A database of animal abusers would be a crucial tool in protecting animals from possible victimization, one that is similar in stature to that of databases for sex offenders and child abusers with the same serious implications. Anyone guilty of any sort of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect would be required to be listed on the registry, remaining there for a lifetime.  The database would need to be updated on a regular basis. The guilty persons on the registry must be banned from ever working with, caring for or owning any animals for the rest of their lives to ensure the protection of animals.  Additionally, this database needs to be shared with and easily available for shelters, breeders, pet stores and others in the pet industry nationwide.  This is the only method and tool that would be effective in protecting defenseless animals who cannot speak out or protect themselves.

My effort in this petition is to encourage South Carolina State Legislators to implement and strictly enforce such a database as a crucial step in protecting animals throughout the state and eventually nationwide.  You can help me in my efforts by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own comments, thoughts and ideas in the name of poor defenseless animals.

Thank you for signing and sharing this petition in an effort to encourage the state of South Carolina to implement and strictly enforce an animal cruelty registry database.  Your support on this issue is greatly appreciated.

South Carolina State Legislators – Thank you for all the measures you are taking in stricter laws and penalties against animal cruelty.  As a further tool in protecting animals, I am encouraging you to implement and strictly enforce an animal cruelty registry.  Such a database of animal abusers would be a crucial tool in protecting animals from possible victimization, one that is similar in stature to that of databases for sex offenders and child abusers with the same serious implications.
