Justice for Phoenix...the emanciated boxer pup!!!

  • by: Jodi and Jim
  • recipient: To change the "5 day stray hold" policy on obvious abuse and neglect cases!!
This is Phoenix an emanciated boxer pup brought into the OC shelter as a stray.  Phoenix even though he was OBVIOUSLY severly emanciated with sores all over his body was held on a "5 day stray hold" so weak that he could not even lift his head and layed on a concrete floor (on a blanket) but none the less a concrete floor for 5 DAYS in this condition scared and alone!!  Critter Crossings Rescue offered to take this little baby into rescue the day he was brought into the shelter but was told "NO" that they refused to go around their 5 day stray policy.  Holding a HEALTHY animal on a "stary hold" in the case they be lost of course....but this is an obvious criminal abuse case and this animal should have been able to be treated with care and dignity REGARDLESS of their policy!!!!!

PLEASE help us change this "5 day stray hold" policy in obvious abuse and neglect cases by signing this petition and sending it onto everyone you know!!!

UPDATE:  Since starting this petition just yesterday 9/26/08 Phoenix passed away.  Even though this lil boy was a fighter his little body was just to damaged and broken to go on, his heart stopped and he left this world early Saturday morning.  I like so many am devastated by his loss and angered at the idea that he could have been helped 5 DAYS prior but because of a "policy" he suffered greatly and senselessly when 5 days COULD have saved his life.  PLEASE help to change this policy and policies like this is your own communties so not one more animal will have suffer in such a senseless way!!

R.I.P now sweet baby, I hope you finally find some peace!!

I felt the need to add this part just to reiterate why we're doing this petition....

PLEASE remember we started this petition to change the "stray hold" policy... NOT to slam this shelter. Phoenix was in HORRIBLE condition when he arrived there and, YES was given IV fluids, but he needed serious vet care and could have received that care 5 days prior to his release if not for their "stray hold" policy. We are all devastated and rightfully angry about what happened to him and so many others like him in this condition, but PLEASE don't make this ugly.  We just want to make a CHANGE so this doesn't happen to any other animal again!!!

Please continue your support but remember what this is about. Let them know what you think (all contact info below). Use the voices we were given BUT please be polite.... This is not a "bad" shelter and we can't blame ONE person, but obviously what was in HIS best interest was severly overooked again because of policy.  Sometimes we have to do what's right regardless of policy!!!
