The Mascarene Petrel or Dark Gadfly Petrel, its color is dark chocolate-brown light-toned chin, upper throat and under wing black bill and feet, pink tarsi. It is endemic to Réunion a french Island in the Indian Ocean, its population is estimated to be a few dozen pairs , the Mascarene Petrel is classified as Critically Endangered according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)
Threats are predation by feral cats and rats, the lesser Indian Mongoose, wide spread light pollution such as street lamps and sport installations
