Milo Yiannopoulos Is Not a Champion for Free Speech

Conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos is once again scheduled to speak at UC Berkeley, this time during the school’s “Free Speech Week” in late September. The last time Yiannopoulos was supposed to speak at the school, the event was canceled after protests turned violent.

Many, including Berkeley mayor Jesse Arreguin, are requesting that the event be canceled, yet UC Berkeley won’t back down. Please add your name to the list of people who don’t want the school to give Yiannopoulos a platform to spew hatred by signing this petition.

Milo Yiannopoulos is known for his anti-women, anti-black, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim rhetoric and writing. He is the person who famously attacked comedian Leslie Jones on Twitter, resulting in scores of racist death and rape threats against her, eventually forcing her off the platform. This stunt and his other disgusting rants got him permanently kicked off Twitter.

Yiannopoulos is also a former editor for Breitbart news, a notoriously racist, misogynistic, xenophobic website that spews little more than hate and lies. He was fired after sympathetic comments he made about pedophilia went public.

Since Trump’s presidency, we’ve seen neo-Nazi groups and individuals become more and more emboldened every day, publicly spewing hateful and inflammatory rhetoric under the guise of “free speech.” At the same time, we have seen increased violence and a growing number of hate crimes. There are consequences to giving hate speech and fascist ideas a mainstream platform.

Please sign this petition demanding that UC Berkeley take a stand against hate speech and cancel Milo Yiannopoulos’ on-campus appearance.
