GLS - The worst delivery company in Portugal but used by the Royal Mail

GLS have the worst possible record for parcel delivery in Portugal. This does not seem the same in other countries where their record is good. However, in Portugal parcels are rarely delivered without many excuses for non-delivery. (See this site http://www.expatforum.com/expats/portugal-expat-forum-expats-living-portugal/474698-gls-royal-mail-uk-last-straw.html for examples.) I have been given all the excuses mentioned on that site. e.g. Wrong Address - it was not; Telephone call was not answered - no trace of call on phone; No one at home - house was manned throughout the period given. This does not happen with any other Portugese delivery company. One of my parcels was returned to the UK despite many emails and phone calls by me to GLS, has to be done in Portuguese as anything in English is unacceptable despite having an English page on their web site (https://gls-group.eu/EU/en/corporate-information). The only successful GLS delivery to me was when I gave the address of a GLS storage agent as the delivery point for collection!

A major problem is caused by the UK Royal Mail using GLS for their registered deliveries. These often contain important documents required by services in UK for pension payments etc. When these documents are returned BY REGISTERED POST to Portugal via GLS they do not arrive causing distress to pensioners living in Portugal.

It appears that parcels for Portugal go to Germany, where the tracking form is signed as delivered, then to Spain and on to Portugal where it arrives beyond the time limit quoted for delivery. The company employees then start their excuses for non-delivery. A rival company DHL, delivered to my door down a 1Km track, with no calls or problems. The driver just used his 'Sat Nav' and followed it. GLS have never done this I have always had to arrange (with difficulty) a meeting place in my local village.

General Logistics Systems B.V. Klaus Conrad,

GLS in Portugal has the worst reputation for failed or problem delivery in Portugal. This is not so in other countries.

We call upon you to investigate the GLS system in Portugal, too many parcels and registered letters are not delivered or delayed with false excuses for non-delivery.
