Please sign and share this petition everywhere possible on all your media websites in an effort to urge Fort Worth, Texas Police Department to implement better regulations for officers regarding shooting dogs or other animals went on a call. So often, police a officer shoots a dog without a good reason, and the dog dies! Situation needs to be investigated first following protocol, without shooting to kill an innocent animal.

Often times, police are called to investigate the situation such as that in a recent report in Fort Worth, Texas, when called about a homeless camp and a loose pit bull dog. As it turned out, the ex-husband of Robin Fairchild was camping in a tent with their dog Shadow who is a seven-year-old pit bull/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Of course, shadow the dog heard a noise and came out of the tent that was located in the woods near Loop 820 and Heron Drive. As Shadow stepped out of the tent, police shouted "hold your dog" and boom, they shot the animal. No investigation, no hesitation, he just saw the dog and shot it in the shoulder. The dog died from its wounds.

This is such a common situation and police officers are not fully trained how to handle encounters with animals. Most animals they encounter are pets, family members. Sometimes they are feral animals, but they don't always require to be shot, especially shooting to kill. This dog did nothing show its face out of the tent because of a sound heard and it lost its life for doing so.

Police need to be trained and better regulations need to be implemented regarding encounters with animals. Oftentimes they take their authority to heart, feeling that animals deserve to be killed instead of serving and protecting the entire community where they work, including animals. Please help us in our efforts to urge better regulations, laws and training for all law enforcement against killing animals when on call without provocation by signing and sharing this petition nationwide. We need to be a voice for these animals that are so misunderstood and shot for no reason.

Fort Worth, Texas Police Department - You need to implement better laws and regulations for police officers, along with a strict training regimen regarding the confrontation and handling of dogs or other animals met on a routine call. Too often, an officer will see a dog, assume it is attacking and shoot it to kill it without investigating the full situation. An investigation does not always warrant shooting an animal to kill it. Officers need to be fully trained in other methods in a more calm manner than to resort to killing an animal that is often someone's pet. Such animals like Shadow Fairchild does not warrant being killed just because it was there with its owner. Stop killing animals on calls by educating your officers with laws regulations and other methods that are more humane protecting the community they are serving.
