The owners of the Strickland Cotton Mill in Remerton, Georgia have requested from the Remerton City Council that this historic building be demolished. Strickland Cotton Mill, dating back to 1899, is the only surviving textile mill in South Georgia. This mill was integral to and responsible for the City of Remerton's existence. Remerton was named to honor Remer Young Lane, one of the original thirty eight founders of the Strickland Cotton Mills, Inc. and he was instrumental in building the Mill. This Mill is a significant local and state landmark, and is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
