The Cass County Historic Courthouse - Preserving Our Past...Creating Our Future!

Since 2012, a committed group of Cass County residents and property-owners have supported the Cass County Board of Commissioners in their efforts to Preserve, Renovate and Revitalize the Historic Courthouse. Early efforts to protect it from demolition, and to stabilize the historic building for re-use, were successfully carried out by the Board. The time has come, however, to determine "Next Steps"... The purpose of this Petition is to assert that the Cass County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) should be the mechanism by which the Historic Courthouse accesses the talent, support and resources needed to achieve these goals, because the EDC EXISTS for purposes such as these. Of equal importance is the fact that the EDC has the tools needed to forward action; AND the LOCAL make-up required to do so in a way that considers the richness of our history, and the desires of our community to preserve that history! We are asking the Cass County Board of Commissioners to transfer ownership of the Historic Courthouse and Annex properties to the Cass County EDC, so that they can establish a community-based 501c3 specifically for the purpose or preserving, renovating and revitalizing these structures for sustainable use. Please support this effort by e-signing this petition, and forwarding to friends and neighbors who value our history, and look forward to a brighter future for its re-use!

Update #56 years ago
I apologize for the prolonged silence, but the County Commissioners have been working through issues that have, unfortunately, brought the vote to a temporary halt.

HOWEVER, THIS WEDNESDAY (01/31/18), Cass County, the Village of Cassopolis and the EDC are sponsoring a "Visioning Session" to reignite the movement toward revitalization of the Village, and of course, the Courthouse! Don't miss it! 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Council on Aging. RSVP and info. https://imaginecass.eventbrite.com/.
