It's been over 20 years since the last My Bloody Valentine album was released, their classic Loveless. They single-handedly trail-blazed the modern rock genre known as shoegaze, led by idiosyncratic auteur Kevin Shields. Despite years of many false starts and apparent dormancy, in recent years they have returned to touring and allegedly finished mastering the "follow-up" to their 1991 masterpiece. Today brought an announcement via facebook that the album may be available at midinght tonight. Like The Velvet Underground & Nico, it's often said that not very many people bought Loveless (indeed I got my copy from a cut-out bin), but that everyone who heard it were inspired to start a band of their own. In these days of online file sharing and downloading, how about we give the folks at SoundScan and Billboard a real mind-freak by buying the record once it is released. Sign here and commit to actually paying for it when it does finally come out.
