NO TOWN OF INDIAN LAND INCORPORATION

"We, the undersigned, are opposed to the incorporation of the Panhandle region of Lancaster County as conceived and orchestrated by the group Voters for a Town of Indian Land, (TOIL). "

A private group of individuals is attempting to incorporate the "Town of Indian Land". This is a group of non-elected individuals who decided what was best for Indian Land with no input from other government, civic, business, or religious leaders. Not one of those individuals lived in Indian Land at the start of the last recession. If Indian Land were to Incorporate, a much more diverse group of leaders should be included from the start of planning.

This group wants to incorporate over 58 square miles. Never in SC has such a massive land grab taken place at one time. Also included is the Van Wyck community. Van Wyck has publicly stated that they do not support this incorporation effort and has gone so far as to incorporate themselves as a purely defensive measure.

Incorporation will guarantee higher taxes, another layer of government and more regulations. No guarantees can be made for improved traffic flow as roads are controlled by the state. Schools are another issue that cannot be changed by a new town government since all school functions fall under the Lancaster County School Board.

We are fortunate to live in a growing and vibrant community and fully support Indian land being a great place to live, work, and raise a family. The solution to our growth issues is not adding another layer of government which only increases the bureaucracy and our tax burden.
