Help Nigeria's Women and Girls Overcome Boko Haram's Terror

Over a year ago, the world stood up in protest when the terrorist group, Boko Haram, abducted nearly 300 schoolgirls in Chibok, Nigeria. Since then, hundreds of women and girls, some as young as 11, continue to experience sexual violence at the hands of Boko Haram fighters.

Recently, the Nigerian Army rescued 234 women and girls from Nigeria's Sambisa Forest where they were held captive by Boko Haram. Raped, traumatized and in many cases pregnant, these survivors end up in internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps along with the 15,000 other Nigerians seeking refuge from the terror threat.

While many women and girls have been rescued, the fight to protect them from sexual exploitation is far from over.

As governments and international organizations step in to help, we must maintain the pressure to protect women and girls from sexual violence. Survivors are in dire need of physical and psychological support to cope with the trauma and exploitation of captivity.

Last year the international community came together to urge Nigerian leaders to help #BringBackOurGirls. Now, with the newly elected president of Nigeria vowing to prioritize efforts to curb the threat of Boko Haram, let's make sure that he continues to keep our girls in mind.

Please sign the petition to incoming Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to help women and girls affected by sexual violence. Survivors need urgent medical and psychological care to overcome the trauma of exploitation.
