Legalize Raw Milk Sales in UK Shops!

  • by: Shann Jones
  • recipient: FSA and appropriate UK Governmental Bodies

We, the under-signed, are fans of raw milk. Many of us have, keep or enjoy goats in some capacity, and understand the powerful health benefit of the milk they provide. We would like to make our opinions on the subject known, and they are these:
We are happy to be "harmonized" with our bovine counterparts. Raw milk is raw milk, and should all be treated and legislated the same, no matter its animal source.
We believe that all raw milk producers should embrace the highest standards of inspection and microbiological testing, and we are happy to do so.
We request that the government update its information base, taking the most recent gold standard science under advisement when considering the legal status of raw milk. The latest reseach shows that previous myths of milk being a "high risk" food were inadequately evidenced, and milk is actually a low risk food. According to the FSA's own statistics 1992-2009 inclusive, as put forward in their full 2010 report on their own website, there were absolutely no deaths recorded at all as a result of illness due to drinking raw milk across the 17 years, but 149 deaths have been caused by other bacteria from other foods.

THERE IS NO SCIENCE BEHIND THE MYTH OF RAW MILK AS A HIGH RISK FOOD.
As a result of this updated science, we believe that all raw milk - cow, goat, sheep, etc - as long as it is licensed, inspected and appropriately legislated, should legally be sold in shops as well as at the farm gate.
Please make your opinion known to the FSA before Apr. 30, 2014 by clicking here. If we don't speak up, they may attempt to ban this powerful medical food!
