Women's March on Washington: Articulate inclusivity for trans women and transfeminine folk

FINAL UPDATE:

We would like to thank everyone who supported our petition for the organizers of the Women's March on Washington to articulate inclusivity for trans women and transfeminine folk following a transmisogynistic comment on the march's Facebook page. The organizers have recently released the following statement of the unity principles behind the march:

https://www.womensmarch.com/principles/

With the release of this statement, we are bringing our petition to a close as they have explicitly expressed support for the rights of trans and gender non-conforming people.

While we would like to see a public rejection of the (now deleted) comment, we are satisfied with this statement. Thank you all for your support!

UPDATE:

It appears that the person who made the comment about the non-inclusivity of bathrooms is not affiliated with the organizers. That being said, the lack of response from march organizers regarding the incident is still troubling, and we hope that the WMW organizers will make a specific statement of inclusivity and address their lack of responsiveness to requests for clarification.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

According to a Facebook comment made by an organizer of the Women's March on Washington, trans women are "welcome" to the march but not welcome to use women's bathrooms. Although it is unclear to what bathrooms the organizer was referring, the March organizers have refused to explain this comment and consistently deleted—or left unpublished—requests for clarification.

The Women's March on Washington is not truly inclusive if it does not include all women. We call on the March organizers to clearly articulate a policy of conceptual and material inclusivity towards trans women and transfeminine people.

Dear WMW Organizers,

According to a comment made by someone on the Women's March on Washington Facebook page, trans women are "welcome" to the march but not welcome to use women's bathrooms.

Thank you,

Concerned trans folks and our allies
