In Franklin County, Virginia, four pot-bellied pigs, three horses and three dogs were found in deplorable conditions on a small farm.  The animals are now finding a temporary home at the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue for care while the case is under investigation. The Giles County Sheriff’s office found the starving animals in Pembroke with ribs and hips protruding along with a defined backbone due to lack of food and nutrition.  On a scale of one to ten, all the animals rated about a two which translates to starving.  None of the animals had food or water; the farm animals were lacking in grain and grasses necessary to graze on in the field.

A spokesperson for the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue states that it doesn’t take long for these poor animals to be in a starving condition.  If not fed regularly, their bodies take calories from body reserve. Now that they are under the care of the rescue, they are beginning to gain weight. They have been caring for many abandoned and poorly treated animals lately.  Charges are still pending for these people of the small farm with the starving animals. The spokesperson at the rescue states that “the potbellied pigs will be placed once their issues are resolved. The little black sow is pregnant and will be available to be placed once she has had her piglets and the babies are weaned, the older (white) sow has injuries over her entire body and will need to heal some first.”

The three starving dogs are only young blue healer mixes of six months of age.  The female of the group already has a new family while the boys are waiting for someone to love and care for them once they are healthier and neutered. All these animals have hopeful lives and did not deserve the abuse, cruelty and neglect they endured.  Those responsible must be punished to the full extent of the law for the way they treated these precious beings that were left in their care.   Please sign and share this petition in an effort to encourage the strongest punishment allowed by law for justice of all these starving animals discovered by authorities.

The Giles County Sheriff’s Office and Roanoke Judicial System – You need to charge and punish these people in Pembroke who starved their horses, pigs and dogs that were relying on their care.  These animals were in deplorable condition and certainly not deserving of such ill-treatment.  Please ensure that these abusers endure the maximum punishment allowed by law and gain justice for the starving animals that looked to them for all their necessities!!
